Pat Falvey

As an electronics engineer, Pat tarted his career
developing thermal imaging sensors at Philips Components. After
a brief diversion into the electronics service industry, he then
spent several years designing virtual reality systems during which
time he registered several patents. In 1998 Pat started working
in the ophthalmic industry, initially as a service engineer. In
2000 Grafton Optical Company started marketing his first imaging
system - GCS. Patrick then realised there was a requirement for
very high quality anterior and posterior imaging systems and decided
to form his own company to develop and market these products.
Pat is currently managing director of ARC Optical
Ltd. The ARC Optical product range covers various camera and software
systems and now includes sophisticated practice and hospital management
software. One of the key features of any ARC system is the use of
bespoke hardware (often developed in house) as opposed to the off
the shelf solutions favoured by other imaging companies. As a result,
ARC imaging products are widely recognised for their exceptionally
high performance characteristics.
Matheson Optometrists practices use ARC Optical
imaging systems for bort anterior and Retinal imaging in all 7 practices.
It was with this system that Andrew Matheson became
the overall winner in the Keeler
National Retinal Photography Competition in Dec 2005.
Pat intends to give a brief talk on the physics
of image capture, storage and processing along with some tips on
considerations when selecting imaging equipment. There will also
be demonstrations on how to use intelligent, integrating capture
devices to obtain high quality fluorescein images.
